KC SuperStar, sponsored by Wells Fargo Advisors, is an ‘American Idol’ style event that awards a $7,500 scholarship to the best high school singer in the metropolitan area, provides the winner the opportunity to perform at venues across Kansas City, and grants a $1,000 donation to the winner’s high school fine arts department. Soloists from all backgrounds, representing the full spectrum of musical genres, will compete for the grand prize on August 26, 2012. The audience will enjoy a high-energy show from 7 pm to 9 pm at Yardley Hall on the Johnson County Community College Campus.
During this year's event, University of Kansas basketball coach, Bill Self, will be honored for his long-standing commitment to youth-oriented projects and programs. The mission of Self’s Assists Foundation is to provide young people with better lives through access to healthy lifestyles resources, programs and facilities. Coach Self will be introduced by one of the most recognizable voices in sports, CBS Sports Announcer, Kevin Harlan.
